In view of the high energy costs, many take a critical look at the power guzzlers in the household.

The dishwasher is also under general suspicion.

Right?

Kassel – electricity, hot water, gas.

The cost of energy is high on the list of things people worry about in Germany thanks to its huge increase.

In addition to radiators and shower heads, every device that consumes electricity is now under scrutiny.

Even when you press the start button on the dishwasher, which was once easy, many people are now concerned about money.

In order to get to the bottom of this specific concern, we have recalculated the operating costs of a commercial dishwasher based on the consumption data given.

A machine in energy efficiency class C was selected as an example device.

This is already in the upper price segment and costs 830 euros.

While the water consumption per cycle remains the same for comparable models in different classes, there are clear differences in the power consumption in Eco mode.

This is reported by hna.de.

High energy costs: how expensive is dishwashing?

The dishwasher with energy efficiency class C uses 0.747 kilowatts of electricity in one cycle.

According to the comparison portal V

erivox

, a full kilowatt hour in Germany currently costs an impressive 43.3 cents.

Converted to the rinse cycle, that's about 32.3 cents.

On the other hand, Germans paid an average of 0.2 cents for a liter of water, according to the comparison portal.

With 9.5 liters consumed by the sample model, 1.9 cents come out.

All in all, the cycle costs about 34.2 cents.

Is the dishwasher still worth it?

In view of the high electricity price, concerns about household expenses are increasing.

In this rough example, 53.35 euros come out with three flushes a week at the end of the year.

If you carry out the same calculation with the average electricity prices that the Federal Statistical Office still gives for the second half of 2021 (32.34 cents per kWh), you end up with around 38 euros.

So using the dishwasher has definitely become more expensive.
