(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 09 - A US senator elected with the Democrats, Kyrstena Sinema, has announced that she is leaving the Democratic party and registering as an independent.
You leave the balance of power between Republicans and Dems in the Senate at 50/50.
The New York Times writes it in a tweet.
"When politicians are more committed to denying the opposition a victory than to improving the lives of Americans, the losers are the common people", wrote Senator Sinema - quoted by the NYT.
"In this I have joined the growing number of Arizona citizens who are rejecting party politics by declaring my independence from Washington's broken partisan system."
In an interview on Politico, quoted by the media.
Sinema promised she would not join the Republicans.
She was the senator from Arizona, challenged by her party, as a centrist she had become a key figure in the Senate.
