How much is too much poured - and how much too little?
One plant that might resent both is the poinsettia.
Poinsettias do well if they are not given too much or too little water.
But how much is that?
Stars for Europe, a trade association of poinsettia growers, can say for sure.

The poinsettia is best provided with not too much and not too little watering.
What does that mean exactly please?

If you take good care of poinsettias, houseplants can live for many years.
One of the biggest care mistakes is incorrect watering.
The plants react particularly sensitively to waterlogging, which can be recognized, for example, by wilted leaves.
That's why you water according to the motto "less is more" - but regularly.
It is best to water the plant with room-warm, stale tap water.
Depending on the pot size, poinsettia growers very specifically recommend the following quantities:
A mini poinsettia in a pot with a diameter of six centimeters needs half a shot glass or 20 milliliters every two to three days.
A plant in a 13 cm pot likes a champagne glass full of water or more precisely 100 milliliters of water a day.
The watering interval increases when it is particularly warm in the room or when the plant is near the heater.
If in doubt, the soil sample helps: It is watered when the soil feels dry at a depth of two centimetres.
Excess water from watering must be poured off promptly.
The dealers advise you to do this after 15 minutes at the latest.

Alternative poinsettia watering: the immersion bath
If you don't want to be too precise, you can also subject the poinsettia to a weekly immersion bath.
Gardener Peter Rasch recommends on
NDR television
to briefly dip the plant in a bucket of lukewarm water every seven to ten days and then let it drain well.

Incidentally, so that you can enjoy your poinsettia for a long time, you should make sure when you buy it that the heat-loving plant is protected from the cold even on short transport routes.
