(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 09 - "Work is going through a phase of transformation that needs to be accompanied. Social inequalities, forms of slavery and exploitation, family poverty due to lack of work or poorly paid work are realities that must find listening in our ecclesial environments".
This is what Pope Francis said addressing the Christian Workers Movement which is celebrating its fiftieth birthday.
The Pontiff exhorted to "keep your mind and heart open to workers, especially if they are poor and defenceless".
"No one should feel excluded from work - he added -. May your commitment to promote women's work, to encourage young people to enter the job market, with decent contracts and no hunger".
For his part, the president of the CEI, cardinal MatteoZuppi, affirmed that "there are millions of Italians in a condition of poverty and therefore the real solution is that of work, as Pope Francis always repeats, the emergency is helping to give what is needed to live, but then you have to give work and the dignity of work and that it is not precarious work, as much as possible for everyone and I would also add the problem of job security, there are too many deaths".
