US singer Nick Carter has been accused of rape by a 39-year-old woman.
She was raped by the Backstreet Boys star in 2001 at the age of 17, said Shannon Ruth at a virtual press conference on Thursday (local time).
She has therefore filed a civil lawsuit against the 42-year-old, in which she is demanding damages.
Three other women - who remain anonymous - are also accusing Carter of sexual assault in the civil lawsuit.
This is reported, among others, by “PageSix” and “USA Today”.
Alleged rape in 2001
The attack on Ruth happened in 2001 after a Backstreet Boys concert in Tacoma, Washington, the woman's attorney said.
She queued for an autograph when Carter invited her onto the tour bus.
The singer gave Ruth a "funny-tasting drink."
After that, Carter forced the then 17-year-old to perform oral sex on him, the lawyer said.
"Then he pushed her onto a bed and raped her." The singer was not deterred by the fact that Ruth "cried and begged".
Carter's lawyer speaks of a "press stunt"
"Although I am autistic and living with cerebral palsy, I believe nothing has affected me more or had a more profound impact on my life than what Nick Carter did and said to me," Ruth said.
In fact, she contracted an STD.
According to Page Six, Carter's attorney denied the allegations.
"This allegation about an incident that allegedly took place more than 20 years ago is not only legally unfounded, but also completely untrue." He spoke of a "press stunt" staged by Ruth's lawyer.
There had already been allegations of rape against Carter in 2017 – Carter also denied them at the time.
In 2019, the public prosecutor announced that they would not bring charges – the case was time-barred.
