The kidnapper from Dresden was arrested by the police.
The two abductees were released and are apparently unharmed.
This was said by a police officer at the scene, according to German media reports.
The 40-year-old man - of German nationality - who barricaded himself in a shopping center kidnapping two people, is alleged to have killed his 70-year-old mother, whose body was found in a Dresden apartment
. entered the Altmarktgalerie shopping center firing shots, then barricaded himself in one of the shops.
Shortly after killing the mother he would have tried to enter the Radio Dresden studios, shooting, but failed.
Radio Dresden director Tino Utassy said "all employees managed to get to safety".
The center has been evacuated, the nearby Striezelmarkt, one of the most famous German Christmas markets, has also been closed.
The police are inviting the population to avoid the city centre.
