In accordance with the policy of the mayor of Haifa, last night (Sunday) the city council approved a budget of 10 million additional shekels for the continuation of the restoration project and the development of the Talfiot Market structure.
Now, with the approval of the additional budget last night, the next phase will begin immediately, in which the two lower floors will be restored - the historic warehouse floor (floor 2), which will be used as an operational floor, and the market floor (1), which is currently used as an active market and will continue to be used as such in the future After its restoration and regulation of trade in it for the benefit of the merchants and the island of the market.
Also, as part of the restoration works for which the additional budget was approved, the original merchant floor (1-) will be developed as a modern market, which will be one of the most beautiful in Israel, similar to food markets in many cities around the world, for example: Barcelona, London and New York.
The other floors will be used in the future, along with the progress of the restoration and preservation of the lower floors.

The restoration of the historic building, which includes 6 floors, is being carried out gradually.
In the preliminary phase, which has long since ended, water, sewage and drainage infrastructures, electricity, fire fighting, etc. were established for the entire building.
Also, the ceilings and columns were reinforced using an innovative method (FRP sheets), roofs and windows were sealed, and the ground floor was partially renovated for the temporary absorption of the merchants, until the restoration of the lower floors is completed.
The market structure will be developed as a social neighborhood center that will be a "home" for the residents of the neighborhood and the diverse communities active in it.
Among other things, the market will include diverse cultural activities as well as dining and shopping areas.
The restoration and preservation of the Talpiot market building, for its architectural and historical qualities, will be carried out strictly and faithfully to the original, while meeting the standards currently accepted for public buildings in regards to accessibility, infrastructure and safety.
