Nine people were injured in serious rear-end collisions involving twelve vehicles on Autobahn 9 in Upper Franconia on Monday morning.
This was reported by the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK).
One person was taken to hospital by helicopter with moderate injuries.
The BRK announced that seven other injured people were taken to nearby clinics by ambulance.
According to a police spokeswoman, the cause of the accident between Trockau and the Franconian Switzerland exit near Pegnitz in the Bayreuth district was initially unclear.
The A9 was temporarily closed in the southbound direction, resulting in a long traffic jam.
