(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, DECEMBER 12 - The EU Council has given the green light to the military partnership mission to support Niger in its fight against armed terrorist groups.
"The mission will strengthen the ability of the Nigerien Armed Forces to contain the threat, protect the population and ensure a secure environment in compliance with human rights and international humanitarian law", reads the statement.
The mission's mandate, designed in close consultation with the Nigerien authorities, will initially last for three years and the financial reference amount for common costs for this period will be €27.3 million.
