Scandals and boycotts have thrown the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) into disarray.

The awards ceremony was banned from US television for a year.

For her return to NBC programming, the Golden Globes have focused their nominations primarily on the tragic comedy The Banshees of Inisherin and the sci-fi adventure Everything Everywhere All at Once.

In the feature film category »Best Drama« are nominated »The Fabelmans«, »Top Gun: Maverick«, »Elvis«, »Tar« and »Avatar: The Way of Water«.

In the Comedy or Musical category, the top prize could go to The Banshees of Inisherin, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Babylon, or Triangle of Sadness.

Martin McDonagh's Irish tale of friends fighting, The Banshees of Inisherin, tops the list with eight nominations, including prize opportunities for actors Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's action comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once came in second with six nominations, including Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Among the nominees for Best Actor in Drama is Brendan Fraser for his role in The Whale.

Fraser had announced that he would stay away from the awards gala.

He has said he was groped at the 2003 Golden Globes by Philip Berk, former HFPA chairman.

The Globe Gala will be held on January 10th - a Tuesday instead of the long-standing regular date on Sunday evening.

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael has been announced as moderator.

The Golden Globes are attempting a comeback this year after a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed in early 2021 that the organization had no black members at all at the time.

There were other allegations that led to numerous stars and studios announcing that they wanted to boycott the show.

Tom Cruise returned his three Globe awards.

He is not nominated this time.

NBC did not broadcast the awards ceremony last January, and the winners were announced via Twitter.

Remarque film adaptation in the running

The German war film "Nothing New in the West" is also in the running for the Golden Globe.

The drama by director and screenwriter Edward Berger was nominated in the category »Best Foreign Language Film«.

There are four other candidates there, including »Close« from Belgium.

The book by Erich Maria Remarque from 1929 describes the horror of the First World War from the perspective of a young soldier.

Austrian Felix Kammerer plays the leading role.

Most recently, the Golden Globe went to Germany for best foreign film in 2018 with the NSU drama »Out of Nowhere« by Fatih Akin.

In television, the sitcom Abbott Elementary tops the list of nominations.

She has five chances to win.

In Germany, the mockumentary can be seen on Disney+.

The nominees for the main TV awards in the category "Drama Series" are: "Better Call Saul", "The Crown", "House of the Dragon", "Ozark" and "Severance".

The comedy series nominated are: Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building and Wednesday.

The mini-series choices are: Black Bird, Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Pam and Tommy, The Dropout, and The White Lotus.

The list of all nominees can be found here.
