First Bologna, followed by Bolzano and Florence: this is the podium of the provinces with the best quality of life in 2022 according to the annual survey of the Sole 24 Ore.

It is the fifth time in 33 years that the Emilian province comes first in the quality of life of its inhabitants, improving by 5 positions compared to last year.

This year's edition understandably also gives ample space to the repercussions on the territory of the major shocks that occurred during the year: war in Ukraine, high energy prices and inflation.

Metropolitan cities are down, with Milan in eighth place, Rome in thirty-first and Turin in fortieth.

Analyzing some results at the regional level, Emilia-Romagna shows a good positioning: next to the primacy of Bologna, the ranking sees Parma in 9th place and Reggio Emilia in 13th.

The provinces of Trentino Alto Adige remain firmly in the top ten, with Bolzano in second place and Trento in fifth place.

In Tuscany there are three provinces at the top of the ranking: in addition to Florence, the new entries Siena, which comes in 4th place (+11 positions), and Pisa (+12 positions) in tenth place.

Among the metropolitan cities, Milan - which was in second position in 2021 - remains in the top ten but drops to eighth place, while Rome slips to 31st (-18 positions);

Cagliari rises by two positions (18th place), Genoa is in 27th place (losing only one position), Turin in 40th (-12 positions).

On the bottom Naples (98th place,

down eight positions) and Palermo (88th place, + 7 positions).

Trieste, which last year had recorded 580.9 points, loses the top of the standings and drops six positions, to seventh place.

As regards the six areas into which the 90 indicators are divided, the podium sees Belluno, Bologna and Bolzano at the top for Ricchezza e Consumi;

for Business and Work Milan, Trieste and Rome;

for Demography, Health and Society Bologna, Modena and Rome;

for Environment and Services Pisa, Siena and Aosta;

for Justice and Security Oristano, Pordenone and Sondrio;

for Culture and Leisure Florence, Trieste and Gorizia.

The 90 statistical indicators underlying the survey, 40 of which updated to 2022, present a series of new features: two indicators on inflation;

a package of indicators on energy from renewable sources/energy renovation/energy consumption;

the index of electoral participation in the last general elections in September 2022;

nine synthetic indices included in the

survey that aggregate several parameters (Quality of life for young people, children and the elderly, Quality of life for women, Urban ecosystem, Crime index, Sportsmanship index, Climate index, IcityRank on digital cities).

Some historical indicators of the survey are confirmed: per capita added value;

house prices and incidence of rents on the average declared income;

youth entrepreneurship;

young NEETs;

hours of ordinary Cig;

The ranking of the quality of life in the Italian provinces, drawn up by Il Sole 24 Ore, also includes the new edition of the Index of the Quality of Life for Women, which summarizes 12 parameters.

According to the ranking, the province of Monza and Brianza offers the greatest well-being to women, followed by Treviso (winner of the first edition, in 2021) and Cagliari.

In particular, the figures relating to the inclusion of women in the world of work are giving impetus to the Lombardy province: Monza and Brianza has the lowest gender employment gap in Italy (equal to 7.1% against a national average of 19 .4%), one of the highest female employment rates in the country (69%) and the record number of paid days for female employees (75.3% of the theoretical maximum).
