The energy flat rate is intended to relieve consumers in Germany despite higher prices.
Now even an energy allowance for children is required.
Hamburg – The energy flat rate was available for almost all sections of the population.
Pensioners sometimes even received twice the money.
The state parents' representatives at Thuringian schools and kindergartens are now demanding an energy allowance for children.
But is that realistic, asks

Most of the energy allowance has been paid out – soon to children too?
Most of the energy flat rate was paid out before December 2022.
Employees, the self-employed, pensioners and students were entitled to the energy flat rate.
Some pensioners even received the energy flat rate twice - if they only retired in October 2022.
In the end, however, no 300 euros ended up in the account because the energy flat rate had to be taxed - pensioners also paid taxes.
In Thuringia, a payment to children is now required.

Children have so far been excluded from receiving the energy flat rate.
"Children need just as much energy as the big ones," said the state parents' representatives at Thuringian schools and kindergartens.
It cannot be understood there why the energy flat rate should only exist for pensioners, employees who are subject to tax, the self-employed and students.
Families in particular are affected by the sharp price increases in the energy sector.
For example, Hamburg Energie increased its prices massively.
Energy flat rate for children – will child benefit soon no longer be sufficient?
So far, the energy flat rate has only reached children in a roundabout way: when the parents have received the 300 euros.
Since parents need this money for themselves and their children, families with children are "de facto worse off," says the state parents' association.
But is an energy allowance for children realistic at all?
So far, the energy flat rate has cost almost 14 billion euros, according to the federal government.
And: Families with children are already supported by the child benefit every month.
The payment dates for December 2022 and January 2023 have also already been set.
In 2023, the child benefit will even be increased - there will then be 250 euros per child.
In addition, families receive a so-called child bonus.
It remains to be seen whether the 250 euros in child benefit per month are really sufficient given the sharp rise in energy prices.
School parent spokeswoman Claudia Koch and Mirco Trippens from the kindergarten parents' representation want one thing above all: "Children must not be forgotten." The energy flat rate for children has not yet been officially planned - the state parents' representation at Thuringian schools and kindergartens wants to work on it.
