The Opéra de Paris, Opéra de Lyon, Théâtre du Châtelet, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Théâtre royal de la Monnaie in Brussels announced on Monday that they are joining forces to reduce their carbon footprint.
Gathered within a group called Collectif 17h25, these five institutions are joining forces to develop
"an unprecedented project based on the standardization of structural elements of the sets"
, according to a joint press release.
Opera productions are known to be big consumers of sets and the five structures have already been committed to ecological practices for several years and have extensive experience in terms of co-productions.

Concretely, the idea is that there is a
"reuse of the same structures from one production to another"
, a
"reduction of the quantities of waste"

"of the storage volumes of the decorations"
and
"of the volumes and masses to carry on tours

The standardization of decorative elements will allow their “
large-scale distribution

without restricting the creative force which makes the wealth of each of these institutions

The project is supported by the State as part of the "Supporting green alternatives in culture" scheme of the cultural and creative industries (ICC) sector of France 2030, operated by the Banque des Territoires - Caisse des Dépôts.
