The rise in Covid hospitalizations is slowing down:

in one week the number of patients has undergone a slight increase of 4.6%

, much lower than the growth rate recorded in recent weeks (+15% on 6 December and +19.5% on November 29).

This is what emerges from the survey of sentinel hospitals belonging to the Fiaso network on 13 December.

In the week monitored, only hospitalizations in ordinary Covid wards increased, +5.2%, while in intensive care there was a reduction in the number of patients, -7.9%.

The number of patients under the age of 18 hospitalized in the four pediatric hospitals and in the pediatric wards of the hospitals of the Fiaso sentinel network remains stable.

Two patients are hospitalized with Covid in intensive care in the 0-6 month range with relevant other pathologies.

50% of patients are aged between 0 and 4 years.

In resuscitation

, the high percentage of patients who have never received a single dose of vaccine continues to worry: the no vaxes are 34% of the total hospitalized

and have an average age of 59, lower than the vaccinated who have instead on average 71 years.

Fiaso detects it.

Overall, 64% of hospitalized patients with infection in the hospital wards fall into the With Covid category, i.e. patients who have arrived at the hospital for the treatment of other pathologies, are positive for the virus but do not have respiratory and pulmonary symptoms.

On the other hand, only 36% are hospitalized for Covid because they have developed the disease.

69% of patients with Covid,

i.e. those who arrived at the hospital for the treatment of other pathologies and were accidentally found positive to the pre-admission swab without having respiratory and pulmonary symptoms,

are hospitalized in the so-called 'bubbles' or isolation rooms in ordinary non-Covid wards.

"Thanks to the organizational models adopted by the healthcare companies in hospitals, the result of the experience gained in two years of the pandemic, we can manage Covid cases with confidence", explains the president of Fiaso, Giovanni Migliore, adding that thanks to the bubbles that many hospitals have organized in hospital wards, specialized hospital assistance can be offered directly in the reference wards to those who are positive but do not have the Covid disease with the typical respiratory symptoms.
