(ANSA) - STRASBOURG, DECEMBER 14 - The EU should set up an international conference to get the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict back on track.
This is the request expressed by the European Parliament with a resolution approved by acclamation which called for "the end of the conflict and the occupation of the Palestinian territories through the resumption of authentic peace talks".
In the text, MEPs urge the international community to support Israel and Palestine in the negotiations that would lead to an agreement on final status and mutual recognition.
The Euro MPs also ask for "an end to the violence of the settlers and the indiscriminate attacks by Palestinian armed groups".
Parliament also underlines that the illegal settlements further undermine the prospects for a viable two-state solution, strongly condemns the continued terrorism against Israel and fully recognizes Israel's legitimate security concerns.
The text also calls for the long-awaited presidential and legislative elections to be held in Palestine and urges Israel to allow these elections to be held in East Jerusalem.
Finally, the Parliament recognizes the role of UNRWA in providing vital services to Palestinian refugees and stresses that all school books and school materials supported by EU funds must be in line with Unesco's standards of peace and tolerance.
