As soon as "Avatar: The Way of the Water" was released abroad, the first reviews began to pour into the cultural and entertainment websites - when it can be judged that the reactions are very divided

"Avatar: The Way of the Waters" opens today (Wednesday) in Israel, and the reviews for what will probably be the biggest blockbuster of the year are starting to be published around the world.

The good news: all the reviews agree that this is a real technological marvel, and that director James Cameron's take on the 2009 sci-fi hit is a thrilling multi-sensory feast in terms of effects, visuals and sound.

The slightly less good news: quite a few reviews claim that the film is too long (about three hours and ten minutes - about half an hour longer than the first film), and that its plot is rather banal and routine.

Banal and routine?

Some examples of prominent reviews: the British Financial Times wrote that "at this time you can reflect on geopolitical issues, make plans for the holidays, organize schedules and think of ideas for recipes", while in the British Metro it was clarified that "although there is always a lot of action on the screen, it is difficult to sympathize with The characters are shallow. The sights are spectacular, but is it even a movie? It's more like a three-hour amusement park facility."

On the other hand, the reputable site IndieWire published that the return visit to the planet Pandora is "the most profitable deal on the planet for the price of a movie ticket", and that "this film cannot be compared to anything else that is currently projected on the screens".

The Los Angeles Times wrote that "James Cameron pulls you in so deeply that sometimes it seems you're not watching a movie, but floating inside one (since most of the action takes place above and below water; DP), while Rolling Stone magazine made it clear that "Cameron's style makes other blockbusters look small."

According to initial estimates, "Avatar: The Path of Water" is expected to rake in around 525 million dollars in its first weekend worldwide, after it will be screened on around 52,000 screens.

It's Olfi Disney's biggest release ever, and in fact the only true blockbuster to hit theaters until February 2023, when Disney's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania will kick off.

As of today, the original "Avatar" is the biggest blockbuster in history, with worldwide revenues of 2.922 billion dollars.

Will "The Way of the Water" manage to break this tremendous record?

This is a particularly difficult task, but not impossible.
