A 19-year-old man has been convicted in Oldenburg for killing his two-month-old daughter.
The regional court on Tuesday imposed a seven-year prison sentence for bodily harm resulting in death, according to the juvenile criminal law, a court spokesman said.
In June 2022 in Cloppenburg, the young man hit the baby in his basket with his fist so hard that it died within minutes.
Prosecutors had requested seven years in prison for manslaughter.
The defense had pleaded assault resulting in death, but did not name a specific sentence.
The court could not identify the man's intent to kill, the spokesman said.
The accused, who became a father at the age of 18, and the child's mother were completely overwhelmed with the child.
The accused man confessed to the crime at the start of the trial and regretted it.
He hit the screaming child to make it quiet.
At the time of the crime, his fiancee had been out with friends for hours.
After the baby stopped moving, he called the emergency services.
Where older injuries in the rib area and in the child's brain came from could not be clarified in the process, as the spokesman said.
The accused had stated that he had regularly consumed drugs with his fiancé.
However, the drug abuse did not lead to reduced criminal responsibility, said the spokesman.
