The Minister of Education, Dr. Darem Tabbaa, discussed with a number of representatives of international organizations operating in Syria the reality of vocational and technical education in the country, the difficulties facing its development and ways to support it, during a meeting in the Ministry's building in Damascus.
Minister Tabbaa pointed to the role of vocational education in graduating professional competencies capable of securing the requirements of Syria's infrastructure in the reconstruction phase and supplying the labor market, noting that this meeting is an opportunity to discuss ways of cooperation with international organizations operating in Syria and concerned with this matter to develop vocational education into a productive sector.
The Minister of Education stressed the necessity of expanding the scope of post-secondary technical education, linking technical education with the Center for Lifelong Education, linking it with development plans and the needs of the labor market, and supporting it to keep pace with global technological developments.
During the meeting, the Director of Vocational and Technical Education at the Ministry, Engineer Fahmy Al-Akhal, gave a presentation on the current reality of vocational and technical education, indicating the importance of this sector as a link between the educational system and the labor market, and works to provide students with scientific and theoretical knowledge and impart practical skills.
For her part, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Education Sector Coordinator Mickey Kwede expressed the organization's readiness to cooperate in various fields to support the education sector, especially the restoration of schools that teach vocational education, securing their requirements and encouraging students to develop their skills according to their desires, which would qualify them to master a profession and enter the labor market later.
