(ANSA) - NEW YORK, DECEMBER 14 - "Today's resolution is important. It will resonate throughout the world and responds to the appeal of the voices of civil society in Iran".
This was stated by US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield at the meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (Ecosoc) before the vote to remove Iran from the Commission on the status of women.
"The Commission is the main UN body to promote gender equality and women's empowerment. It cannot do its job if it is undermined from within. Iran's membership at this moment is a bad stain on the credibility of this body".
