Arriving at the European Council, Prime Minister Meloni explains that the EU says that the Italian one is a very serious manoeuvre, and this requires that Parliament now move quickly. On Qatargate, it is necessary to shed full light without discounts. (HANDLE)

"The European Union says that we have made

a very serious manoeuvre

, we are among those who have had the best judgment and this requires Parliament to move quickly, while respecting its prerogatives which I have always defended".

This was stated by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, arriving at the European Council.

The prime minister says

she expects progress from the summit on the energy dossier

: "The issue is relevant - she explains -, we are called to confirm our support for Ukraine but this also means giving effective responses to the domain of consequences: the issue is political and non-technical, the Council has what it takes to make progress and we will seek common solutions that are effective".

Speaking on the immigration issue, the premier said that this government is "projecting Italy on its Mediterranean dimension, on the relationship with North Africa, with the Mediterranean countries" important "in the context in which we find ourselves both in terms of energy cooperation and obviously for everything concerning the migratory affair, which as you know we ask to be addressed on a structural level".

There are "certainly a lot of issues and we will do our part".

Speaking instead of the so-called Qatargate, according to the prime minister "the scenario is worrying, the news that comes out tells us something that we would never have imagined and

in the face of this type of thing there must be a reaction

, we need to go all the way, without make discounts, because the credibility of the EU and of our nations is at stake: we will ask that full light be shed on what is happening".

For Giorgia Meloni, the story has "quite devastating contours", and "in these cases - she added - I believe that the reaction counts a lot and

the reaction must be firm and decisive

".
