The US science fiction series "The Man Who Fell to Earth" on Showtime continues the story of the 1976 film of the same name and tries to combine the feel of the original with a modern look.
The story of "The Man Who Fell to Earth" explained very briefly: near Roswell in New Mexico, an extraterrestrial lands who walks in the footsteps of a conspecific that was stranded on earth 40 years ago.
His goal is to save his home planet from a climate catastrophe, but to do so he needs the help of former scientist Justin Falls.
A quick review
There are a few directors in the history of modern film who fit the bill 100% ahead of their time.
In addition to the American Stanley Kubrick and the German Rainer Werner Fassbinder, the Brit Nicolas Roeg also definitely belongs in this illustrious circle of brilliant filmmakers.
After the sometimes controversial horror film Don't Look Now, Roeg directed the offbeat flick The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring David Bowie, who was already suffering from drug addiction.
The work unequivocally criticizes the consumerism of the modern western world.
An alien whose planet is on the verge of extinction is stranded on earth and founds a multinational company in which he patents some futuristic technologies.
His goal is clear: earn enough money to build a spaceship that will one day take him home.
