When to fill up around the holidays is cheapest - and when it is most expensive

If you're clever, you can save a lot on refueling around the holidays.

An empty car tank can get expensive around the Christmas holidays.
But if you fill up at the right time, you can save a lot.
Berlin – Christmas time is travel time: Many go on vacation or dutifully visit relatives spread across the whole of Germany.
And like every time before the holidays, this will probably have an impact on petrol and diesel prices.
They could also increase sharply this year.

That's why the Business Insider
advises
in a report to fill the tank of the car well before the holidays to save money.
Right now, in the days before the fourth Advent, Steffen Bock, founder and managing director of the consumer information service Clever Tanken, explains in relation to visiting the petrol pump: “My tip is, at best, not to fill up at all at Christmas, but well before and then again towards the end of the holidays.”

Because currently, due to the falling oil price, the prices for petrol and diesel are cheap compared to the past few weeks and months and are roughly back to the level of the time of the tank discount.
The ADAC determined average prices of 1.734 euros per liter for Super E10 and 1.988 euros for a liter of diesel.
However, it is unlikely that prices will continue to fall in the coming days, according to the report.

Refueling at Christmas 2022: Fuel prices can rise sharply
It is to be expected that fuel prices will rise again before Christmas.
But even then you can still save a lot of money when filling up.
Prices can fluctuate by up to 22 cents within a day, Bock speaks of "usual daily fluctuations".
He recommends refueling in the periods between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. in the evening, since the prices for petrol and diesel are the cheapest on average then.
However, deviations from this are possible at any time.
According to ADAC, the price of fuel is highest in the morning around 7 a.m.
The prices are significantly higher compared to December of the previous year.
A liter of Super E10 cost an average of 1.605 euros in December 2021, and a liter of diesel only 1.510 euros - almost 50 cents less than currently.
So it's good to know what influence the car heater has on fuel consumption and what else can be used to save a little fuel.
