(ANSA-AFP) - GENEVA, DECEMBER 16 - After 21 years of faithful service, Angelina Jolie resigns from her role as special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The star wants to "work differently" and on broader humanitarian issues, she said in a statement released today.
"After 20 years of working within the United Nations system, I feel the time has come for me to work differently by directly engaging with refugee and local organizations," the actress added.
"Angelina Jolie has long been an important humanitarian partner of UNHCR. We are grateful for her decades of service, her commitment and the difference she has made for refugees and forcibly displaced people,"
explained Filippo Grandi, head of the UNHCR.
