The Via-Vas Commissions of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and the Pniec-Pnrr Technical Commission authorized 7.1 gigawatts of new renewable energy projects on the national territory from 1 January to mid-December 2022.

Already in mid-December, the threshold of 7 gigawatts of power, which was expected to be reached by the end of 2022, was exceeded. The President of the Commissions, Massimiliano Atelli, specifies that another 3 sessions are scheduled until the end of 2022 plenary, to evaluate further projects.

This was announced by the Ministry in a press release.

There are 43, for 2.7 gigawatts of nominal or peak power, the favorable opinions relating to wind projects issued by the Via-Vas Commission, while 104, for 4.4 gigawatts, those produced by the Pnrr-Pniec Commission: 56 of these concern agrivoltaics, 14 photovoltaics, 31 wind and 3 pumping.

"The goal achieved is only a starting point that reverses a negative trend - declared the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto -.

Building on this year's data, we need to do more to meet our climate and economic goals.

The majority of the approved projects concern agrivoltaics, ie the method of producing solar energy which is combined with the needs of agriculture and does not subtract land from cultivation.

It is an important result, achieved on the basis of a clear political-institutional direction, and thanks to the rigorous commitment of the independent technical bodies".

The minister recalled that the Pnrr allocates "2.1 billion to improve waste management, 1.5 billion for new waste management plants or the modernization of existing ones, 600 million for flagship circular economy projects".

On the energy front, the Plan envisages "200 million for green islands, 140 for green communities, 6 billion for new renewable sources, 4 billion for smart grids". Then there are "2 billion for water infrastructure,

almost 1 billion to deal with the national scandal of 40% of leaks from the networks, 600 million for sewage and purification". Finally, there are two reforms for the simplification of the legislation for the construction of water infrastructures and with the measures to ensure full management capacity of integrated water services".

"There is a horizon of development and investment that is unprecedented in the history of our country - concluded Pichetto -. If we know how to spend well, if we know how to carry out these reforms well, if we know how to be rational beyond our ideological positions, I believe we will be able to a service of those important to the country and to the new generations".
