A violent fire which engulfed a building in Vaulx-en-Velin, in the north-eastern suburbs of Lyon, left ten dead including five children and fourteen injured.

The emergency services are busy on the spot in a ballet of ambulances, trucks and flashing lights.

The flames started from the ground floor to spread upstairs, trapping some of the inhabitants in their homes, while the smoke invaded the common areas, according to the firefighters.

Findings are underway to determine the causes of the fire, according to a spokesperson for the prefecture on site.

The intervention took place "in difficult conditions", indicated the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who went there this Friday morning.

Two firefighters were slightly injured during the intervention.

Some 14,000 police and gendarmes will be mobilized on Sunday to ensure the security of the festivities around the World Cup final, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on Friday.

The Paris police headquarters has planned 2,750 police and gendarmes for the capital alone.

After massive layoffs, Twitter on Thursday suspended the accounts of several journalists who covered the social network and its new owner Elon Musk.

Brussels was quick to bang its fist on the table, through a tweet from Vera Jourova, Commissioner for Transparency.

“The news about the arbitrary suspension of journalists on Twitter is disturbing.

The EU Digital Services Act requires respect for media freedom and fundamental rights.

    (…) There are red lines.

And sanctions, soon,” she said on the network.

Train traffic will be "slightly disrupted on certain lines" on Saturday, the day of the big departures for the Christmas holidays, due to a social movement by SNCF Réseau switchers, SNCF indicated in an Infotrafic point.

In detail, around twenty TGVs out of 650 will be removed.

Fewer subways and always more passengers.

You may have experienced it in recent days: trains idling, passengers jostling, while others simply cannot get on… Similar scenes are observed almost daily in the Paris metro.

In order to report on the reality experienced by travellers, our journalists have measured the frequencies between each metro over the past three days, for 30 consecutive minutes during rush hour, morning and evening, on the 14 main lines of the network.

Result: it is often necessary to let pass one or two trains to be able to embark.

Contacted, the RATP evokes a lack of drivers, an upsurge in passenger incidents or the impact of modernization works.
