In the two finals of the World Cup on Saturday and next Sunday in Qatar there is also Italy, the one with a beret and camouflage.

In Doha, in view of the Croatia-Morocco match and especially the final between Argentina and France, one of our contingents with 560 soldiers is ready to intervene in support of the Qatari authorities, at their request, in emergency situations, in case of hostile or terrorists.

The task force, in the Emirate since early October, has been engaged with various components, from the land-based 'Sassari' Brigade of the Army to that for operations at sea, with the 'Thaon di Revel' ship of the Navy, which monitors the international waters off the capital, up to the Air Force, which provides for the control of the airspace, and the Carabinieri engaged in military police activities and advising the local forces.

Since the beginning of the World Cup

, the 560 Italian soldiers - including specialist and dog units - have been ready to intervene in the event of alarms for situations that could threaten critical infrastructures such as stadiums, ports, airports and industrial complexes, shopping centers and crowded places

.

In the weeks preceding the inauguration of the World Cup, the same men had already contributed to the checks in support of the approximately five thousand men of the Qatar Defense Ministry, to which are added other international military contingents from France, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States and Turkey.

"We work in a country with very different characteristics from ours. It is a mission that arises from a specific request from the Qatari government, to have highly specialized assets in competition in very delicate sectors - explains

General Giuseppe Bossa, commander of the operation called 'Orice'

- It's the first time we've been involved in supporting the management of an event like the World Cup, but it's a winning model that makes us proud and that can be replicated for other international events".

Less than a week after the kick-off of the tournament, the assets of the Italian army for the 'Cbrn' defense (from chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats) have completed the latest in a long series of chemical checks -radiologicals carried out in five of the eight stadiums which then hosted the matches.

The Navy team, on the other hand, through an autonomously guided underwater vehicle, carried out a check of the seabed of the entrance channel of the port of Doha, to identify the presence of any bombs or other objects dangerous to navigation, as well as continuing to supervise the waters international organizations to counter any arms trafficking and intercept any illicit flow.

The Air Force, on the other hand, controls the airspace to counter any unauthorized use of drones, deploying equipment consisting of portable jammer devices and the stationary anti-drone system.

The joint task force, with the Carabinieri, also has the task of providing advice and assisting the armed forces of the Emirate.

Behind the controls there is therefore a lot of Italian know-how: expert military planners contributed to the drafting of the defense plan for the sporting event, during the joint planning sessions held in Qatar.
