EL PAÍS continues its investigation into the abuse of minors in the Spanish Catholic Church and, after the two reports it delivered to the Pope and the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) in December 2021 and last June, it has prepared a third dossier with new cases that he has now sent to the bishops and the Ombudsman.
This new work collects 79 testimonies from victims and witnesses accusing 70 priests, religious and lay people from religious institutions, of whom 50 names were unknown until now.
The document counts 103 victims.
In this way, the total number of cases collected, investigated and delivered by this newspaper amounts to 500
within one year.
It is a dizzying increase that has doubled the number of known cases in Spain in 12 months: now there are 906 with 1,713 victims, when only four years ago, when this newspaper began its investigation, there were only 34 and, in theory, it was a problem that in the Spanish Church it did not exist.
These data come from the accounts kept by EL PAÍS, the only one that exists in the absence of official or ecclesiastical data, with an open database that brings together all the cases known through the media or court rulings.
The work of this newspaper is based on more than a thousand messages that have arrived since October 2018 to the complaint email that opened on those dates: abuses@elpais.es.
In March of this year, a mailbox was also opened for cases from Latin America: abusesamerica@elpais.es.

They are arranged by provinces, in alphabetical order and, to respect the Data Protection Law, only the initials of the name of each accused are reported.
The previously published lists are also available to consult, with the cases of the first report of December 2021 and the second report of June 2022.
