Potato pancakes, potato pancakes or hash browns?
Have you sometimes wondered why the delicious potato pancakes have different names?
Basically, there is one thing in common: potatoes 🥔.
And the shape is actually always the same.
They only differ in their preparation and region, which is why they have different names.
But how does the saying go?
Many names and even more fans, because the main thing is that it tastes good!
Our tip:
You can use any type of potato for potato pancakes.
However, we find that mainly waxy potatoes are particularly suitable for the pancakes.
That's how it's done:
You only need a few ingredients:
Applesauce:
600 g apples, peeled and diced
1 tsp cinnamon
50 grams of water
Potato pancakes:
200 g onions, grated
1 kg potatoes, peeled and grated
1 egg
1 tsp cornstarch
0.5 tsp pepper
1 tsp salt
250 ml cooking oil for frying
The preparation is simple:
For the apple sauce:
Sauté the diced apples with the cinnamon in a small saucepan.
Add water and simmer, covered, until the apple pieces are soft.
Take off the heat.
For the potato pancakes:
Finely grate the onions and potatoes.
Place in a sieve, squeeze well and drain.
Mix in the egg, cornstarch, pepper and salt.
Heat oil in a deep pan.
Pour the dough into the hot oil in batches and press flat.
Fry the potato pancakes over a medium heat for 4–6 minutes on both sides until crispy, turning once.
Remove from the pan and drain on kitchen paper.
Serve potato pancakes with applesauce.
Zack - done!
