CASERTA - The rooms of the 19th century wing of the Royal Apartments of the Royal Palace of Caserta have been reopened to the public after the restoration works started in 2020 and curated by the Ganosis Consorzio Stabile.

The reopening took place during a press conference in which the work done was illustrated, namely the restoration of the Royal Staircase and the nineteenth-century wing of the building, the canopied beds and bedside tables of Gioacchino Murat and Francesco II.

The works concerned 1,410 m2 of terracotta flooring painted in imitation marble, 811 m2 of doors and hatches, 4 brass and crystal chandeliers, the installation of 239 m2 of new fixtures, the movement and maintenance of 189 furnishing items.

"The commitment to restore to this place the dignity of a palace and the great suggestion of charm imagined by the Bourbon clients - said the general manager of the Royal Palace of Caserta Tiziana Maffei, also recalling the existence of other construction sites currently underway - requires today a large investment of economic and professional resources. The numerous construction sites that deal with articulated restoration activities, plant adaptation and re-functionalization of the environments, highlight the management complexity that our museum is facing to ensure the best possible

A gradual recovery that, in today's reopening, we share with all the highly specialized professionals and workers who have operated, bearing witness to a cultural heritage whose care and custody can only take place by being able to count on great competence, passion and a sense of responsibility towards the public good".

The west wing of the Royal Palace is therefore once again usable to visitors, who can admire the Sala del Consiglio, the rear rooms of the 19th century, the Sala delle cradle, the antechamber and the Chapel of Pius IX, the intimate environments of the two rulers, namely the bedroom and the antechambers of Gioacchino Murat, the bedroom and the antechamber of Francesco II.
