Stiftung Warentest has tested ten fondue sets for the festive season.
The devices in the mid-range in terms of price performed best.
Berlin – Whether it's Christmas or New Year's Eve, fondue is particularly popular on these days.
Stiftung Warentest examined six fondue sets with an electric heating plate and four with a classic burner.
The electric sets in the test are priced between 48 and 150 euros.
The sets with a burner cost between 80 and 265 euros, which is a lot more than the others.
Fondue sets: choice of equipment depends on the type of fondue
Oil, broth, cheese or chocolate - the ideal fondue set should be able to do everything.
Only three devices come close, but do not lead the test field.
Electric sets are particularly impressive when deep-frying meat in oil.
The heat supply is even and can also be regulated more precisely.
Fondue sets with a burner are more suitable for cheese fondue.
Other devices completely exclude certain types of fondue.
When choosing the fondue set, it depends on what it is used for.
The price-performance winner scores "very good" for meat and cheese fondue.

Sets in the test: Electrical and burner devices have different strengths
The WMF Lono fondue set performed best in the test with an overall rating of 1.7.
The electrically operated set was rated "very good" in terms of handling and fondue preparation.
The set for 90 euros is good for oil and broth.
Cheese and chocolate fondue cannot be made with the device.
Stiftung Warentest rates the Kela Lancy set as the best fondue set with burner.
The manufacturer only intended the device for 79 euros for cheese fondue.
Other burner devices do not rule out use for broth and oil, but only achieved a rating of "satisfactory".
Meat and cheese fondue: price-performance winner can do both
If you want to prepare meat and cheese fondue with your fondue set, you should look for the price-performance winner.
Stiftung Warentest rates the preparation of the device as "very good".
The FO 2470 set from Severin only costs 48 euros and scored a total of 1.8 - just behind the test winner.
The most expensive fondue set Mode from Le Creuset does not live up to its price of 265 euros and is only rated as "satisfactory".
