2022-12-19T07:28:45.505Z

December is also the time to go to the pleasant desert, especially on weekends and Hanukkah, when the "Colors in the Desert" festival takes place, which offers endless activities for NIS 20. Details in Vala! Tourism

Hanukkah should have been the "Holiday of the Negev" - this is the perfect attack to go down to the south of the country and travel by car and on foot, getting to know the people and the landscapes, from the green fields of the Gaza Strip to the dramatic landscapes of the Negev Mountains and the Arabah, from the kibbutzim to the cities through the Bedouin villages.

And this year as part of the "Colors in the Desert" festival, not only can you go down to the Negev (to five areas:

the northern Negev, the Dead Sea and the Arabah, Be'er Sheva, the Bedouin area and the craters area

) for a huge variety of activities, but you can also do it cheaply.

Throughout the days of the festival (every December on Thursdays and Fridays and throughout Hanukkah) you will find endless things to do for a symbolic price of

NIS 20 per person

.

On the festival website you can find all the variety of places, dates and activities, and buy tickets.

What is left for you to do is just decide what of all this goodness you want to do.

So to make your life a little more comfortable, here are some examples from the north of the Negev and more in the Arabah, and that's really just the tip of the iceberg.

Here's a look at some of the special things in the space.

Wine and the art of iron at Kibbutz Or Haner

The truth is, I came with relatively low expectations.

Most of the times I came to taste wine from a home winery - I was disappointed to find out that it was a low quality wine and at an excessive price.

Add to that the fact that the winemaker is sitting right in front of me - which requires me to hide my disappointment - and you get a dubious experience.

But it turns out that it is also possible otherwise.

For example, "at Papo's vineyard" in Kibbutz Or Hanar.

In front of the Korkar hills of Gavram, Pepo (Dan Martsifer) hosts guests in the yard of his house who can taste an excellent homemade wine.

Pepo, who, like many of the pioneers of Or Hanar, immigrated to Israel from Argentina, is not only a wine producer but a unique artist who creates in iron.

A visit to him combines wine tasting, a tour of the workshop, a tour of the winery and above all a relaxing time in front of the view.

A creation in Moshav Takuma

With all due respect to wine and art, what most of us are really interested in at Hanukkah is what the hell we do with the kids in a place that isn't another mall or an overpriced noisy show.

So a small studio in Moshav Takuma offers you a great solution, where you can create things that anyone can do, you also take something beautiful home and the kids are happy.

The studio located at Farm 74 is managed by Hadas Zargon, who is not only very talented, but also brings the energy of a birthday operator to such a degree that even I found myself making some kind of flower pot, and even managed to enjoy myself along the way, which is even more surprising than the fact that I managed to like my homemade wine.

Besides flower pots, you can make signs and even a wall clock, and everything is based on painting concrete molds that are produced on site.

Bottom line - we both had fun and I felt good about myself.

Food, workshops and experiences in Bedouin society

In Brahat you can find people with amazing life stories, despite the complexity that you sometimes see in the media: a conflict of tradition versus progress, people, and especially women, who have broken endless glass ceilings and even excellent Arab food.

The days of the festival are a great opportunity to get to know one of those pioneering women, hear their story, taste the food they prepare and even learn to make something yourself.

For example, the local women will offer a variety of workshops, tours and Bedouin hospitality at the home of Suleiman's mother Sabreya Barhat, goat cheese making in Hillel's tent, self-picking olives in Odeh's tent in Ramat Bayreim, authentic accommodation in Yahala and Ya Merhava tents, grinding flour on a millstone In Swillem's tent, growing delicious things without using water in Sub Ashai's tent, an embroidery workshop with Bedouin women on bags and napkins, sustainable desert agriculture in Wadi Atir, a meeting with a Bedouin woman in Belkya and more.

Agricultural education and love of the land at Rimon Farm

Rimon Farm in the Lahav Forest is first of all an educational institution that provides a unique solution for youth who do not find their place in the usual frameworks, and where they try to reach them through agriculture and farming.

The farm is also a model of vision and fulfillment, because it was built only a year and a half ago in one of the most complex areas in the Negev and succeeded in a short time, despite the difficulties, to become a place of connections and hope, and no less important a beautiful place where a visit is not only an important contribution, but also a real A fun experience.

At the farm you can pick from the variety of local produce, or just drink coffee in a pastoral place while the children run around in the open and green space.

Nature and spaces in Dimona

With all due respect to the people, which is very nice, the desert is first of all open spaces and great views.

The Ramon Crater and Sde Boker do not need to be introduced, and there, too, there is a variety of activities in nature as part of the festival.

But another special beautiful space that is perhaps less well known is the Dimona area, from where you can go on jeep tours and jump into the actual national park and get to know the history of the Nebatim - the ancient people of the desert.

Right next to Dimona, a short walk away, is one of the most beautiful daffodil blooming sites in the Negev, and this is exactly the season to see them.

It's amazing to see how out of the hard desert rocks, when everything around is dry, these impressive flowers emerge.

Even those who are not a big fan of blossoms on a daily basis will have a hard time not being amazed.

The Dimona area is booming.
