(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 19 - The Canadian government has announced the start of a process for the seizure of 26 million dollars of sanctioned assets from a company owned by Russian oligarch RomanAbramovich.
This is what we read on the Ottawa government website.
While several Western allies have seized yachts, oil and gas firms and other assets of people close to Russian President Vladimir Putin, this is the first time Canada has done so.
Ottawa said it will ask the court to prosecute Abramovich's Granite Capital Holdings and use the proceeds for Ukraine's reconstruction.
