(ANSA) - ROME, DECEMBER 19 - The UN countries have agreed at the Cop15 on biodiversity in Montreal to make 30% of the land and seas a protected area by 2030, to allocate 30 billion dollars a year to help developing countries in the protection of nature, to restore 30% of degraded ecosystems and to halve the risk associated with pesticides.
Currently, 17% of the land and 8% of the sea are protected areas.
Cop15 was presided over by China (it was supposed to be held in Kunming, but was postponed due to Covid).
The final document passed despite stiff opposition from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
