TV audiences: more than 24 million viewers watching the Argentina-France final, a record

The victory of Lionel Messi and his teammates against the Blues on Sunday allowed TF1 to sign the best audience of all time.

Defeat at the end of the suspense… A comeback, an extension, a new comeback, before a penalty shootout: this crazy scenario, full of twists and turns, was ideal for TF1.

Captivated and stressed, viewers were held spellbound in front of their televisions until the final whistle.

24.08 million people followed the meeting between 4 p.m. and 6:55 p.m., according to Médiamétrie.

The market share of the general public aged four and over is 81%.

It climbs to 86.7% for individuals aged 25 to 49.

The Blues beat the score measured in their semi-final against Morocco (20.7 million), like that of the 2006 semi-final, which until now held the historic record for French television.

Never have so many French people watched a French television channel at the same time.

A peak of 29.39 million was measured precisely at 6:53 p.m., at the time of the penalty session.

Note that the beIN sports audiences, which must be added to those of TF1, will not be known until the end of the day.

For its part, the front page announces that three million people watched the match live on MYTF1, which is not counted by Médiamétrie.

In the process, the awarding of the cup to the Argentines, and the competition's top scorer trophy to Kylian Mbappé, was followed by 14.1 million footballers (54.8% of PDA).

Anne-Claire Coudray's “20 Heures” was carried by this immense wave: 7.8 million people watched the news on the front page (33.6%).

The first channel recorded an excellent day at 44.5% (against 18.9% for the whole of November).
