On TikTok, thousands of users have been touting a “slimming trick” for several months by dangerously diverting an antidiabetic, Ozempic, one of the side effects of which is weight loss.
Many hashtags launched like #Ozempicchallenge or #ozempicweightloss (weight loss in French) abound on the social network, accumulating today more than 460 million views.
This new trend, which mainly affects women who dream of having a flat stomach and an hourglass figure, is not without risk.
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, hair loss… These injections reserved for people suffering from type 2 diabetes can also cause pancreatitis (an inflammation of the pancreas).
Another consequence and not the least: the explosion in sales of Ozempic, diverted as an appetite suppressant, above all causes shortages in several countries, such as Australia, where the drug is already out of stock until March 2023. In France, the National Medicines Safety Agency, which is monitoring the situation very closely, ensures that for the moment, Ozempic prescriptions are not increasing significantly.
But reports many "field feedback" which report a misuse of this antidiabetic in France.
