In the central south, temperatures above the seasonal average of up to 20-21° are expected. In the North possible formation of mists, especially on the Po Valley. Air quality will gradually become poorer and more harmful. Pollution will increase (ANSA)

There are two days left until the winter solstice and a large sub-tropical anticyclone is ready to invade Italy and its presence will put the upcoming winter season on standby.

The great Christmas anticyclone - according to www.iLMeteo.it - communicates that it will suffer a temporary injury on the day of the solstice, Wednesday 21 December, when there will be some rains in the North and in Tuscany, for the rest it will dominate unchallenged at least until Boxing Day and probably beyond.

The consequences of this presence will differ from area to area.

In winter, the African anticyclone in the North causes the formation of widespread and sometimes persistent fogs on the Po Valley and present up to about 400/600 meters in height.

Except for cleared places, the sun will almost always be absent in favor of an extensive coverage of the sky which may also be invisible due to fog.

It goes without saying that in this context the air quality will gradually become poorer and dangerously harmful.

Pollution from smog will increase and the risk of respiratory infections will increase especially in the most fragile subjects (the elderly and children).

From a thermal point of view, the lack of sun will keep the temperatures quite low even in the central hours of the day.

On the other hand, the situation and climate are completely different in the Centre-South and in the Alpine and Pre-Alpine sectors.

In these areas, in fact, the African anticyclone will favor a wider amount of sunshine with only partly cloudy skies.

As a result, temperatures can only grow, going above the average for the period again.

Suffice it to say that constant 20-21°C will be recorded in the South over the next seven days, while in the Center up to 15-16°C.

This situation could last until New Year's Eve given that, with the data available to date, the anticyclone will be very difficult to undermine
