Add, multiply and recycle: A World Without Waste is possible

2022-12-20T00:59:08.387Z

Through the El Amor Multiplica initiative, the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry achieves positive change and places Mexico as a global benchmark in terms of recycling, environmental care and circular economy

The environmental challenges of the contemporary world, particular to each region of the planet, require forceful actions tailored to the circumstances.

Gone are the days when sensitization, education and awareness campaigns were the only mechanisms focused on actions for change, such as the separation of domestic garbage, institutional recycling or the reuse of packaging and polluting materials.

Today governments, citizens and companies have transcended commercial and corporate interests, leaving on the table that the only way to achieve a substantial change in terms of sustainability is through the sum of joint efforts, capacities and visions on the urgency of the problem.

In this regard, the case of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC) and the El Amor Multiplica initiative are worth mentioning.

Together we are more and we do better things, in favor of the planet.

Thanks to its corporate leadership, the IMCC currently has the goal of achieving a World Without Waste by 2030, by recovering and recycling the equivalent of 100% of the packaging it puts on the market through its products, working together with its eight bottling partners and achieving strategic alliances aimed at achieving far-reaching transformations.

Currently, the IMCC collects six out of every ten containers it puts on the market.

One of its most recent initiatives is the project of the Mexican Coca-Cola and Rappi Industry for #UnMundoSinResiduos.

Thus, through a new Rappi tech flow, users of the Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo mayors' offices, in Mexico City, can request the collection of a minimum of 15 PET, cardboard, glass and multilayer containers, with the Recycle button at no cost.

Added to this initiative are other actions that have set a precedent in the field of green corporates, where technological transformation and business strategies weigh environmental awareness for the future:

- Together with its eight bottling partners, they renewed the bottle of the Sprite drink, going from green to transparent, which allows a better integration into the recycling chain, adding to the Ciel bottle, which is fully recycled and recyclable .

- In January 2022, the construction of its PLANETA Plant began, together with Coca-Cola FEMSA, which will be focused on expanding the recycling capacity that the IMCC currently has in the country.

- In conjunction with Arca Continental, the IMCC announced an investment of 175 million pesos to strengthen the collection and recycling capacity in Jalisco.

- In partnership with Fundación Azteca, the IMCC has managed for the second time to keep public spaces and beaches clean with the cleanup days Limpiemos México por #UnMundoSinResiduos 2022, achieving the participation of more than 4,500 volunteers and recovering almost one hundred tons of waste in Yucatan, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Morelos, Chiapas and the State of Mexico.

This is possible thanks to the consolidated infrastructure throughout the more than 96 years of experience that the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry has in Mexico, where it has managed to position itself as a leader in innovation and creation of solutions for waste treatment. .

Currently, IMCC is the main food grade PET recycler in the world, through PetStar, the world's largest food grade PET recycling plant, and IMER, the first in Latin America.

For the IMCC, the philosophy behind these actions sheds important light on a common vision: love as the engine that drives all our actions for Mexico.

This is how El Amor Multiplica makes sense as an integral platform, where citizens and organizations can become agents of change, through concrete actions such as the rehabilitation of public spaces, cleaning beaches and bodies of water, training for entrepreneurs, participation in community forums, rehabilitation of community spaces and circular economy projects, among others.
