led one of the ugliest divorce battles seen in recent years, and last night (Monday) another chapter was closed between them, after reaching a settlement agreement in the high-profile trial they conducted.
Heard posted a statement on her Instagram account, writing about the decision she made: "After much deliberation, I came to a difficult decision to reach a settlement in a defamation lawsuit filed against me by my ex-husband. It is important for me to say that I did not choose this. I was defending my truth, and this action destroyed my life.
The humiliation I went through on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women become victims when they reveal the truth. Now I have the opportunity to free myself from something I tried to leave behind six years ago, and on terms I can stand."

In 2016, the actress accused her ex-husband of being violent towards her.
He filed a lawsuit against her for defamation, and last June the court in Virginia ruled that Herd lied in her testimony, and determined that she must pay Depp 15 million dollars, and he will pay her two.
As part of the compromise agreement reached, it was decided that she would pay only one million dollars.
Minutes after the verdict was read, Heard responded on her Instagram account.
"Words cannot describe the disappointment I feel today. I am heartbroken that the mountains of evidence were not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power and influence of my ex-husband.
I am even more disappointed by the meaning the verdict has for other women. It turns back the clock, to a time when Women who dared to speak publicly experienced humiliation and humiliation. This sets back the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously."
