In the criminal case against Harvey Weinstein, a jury in California found the former Hollywood producer guilty of three sex crimes: rape, forced oral sex and sexual penetration by foreign objects.

The jury informed the court in Los Angeles on Monday.

They had previously consulted for around 40 hours over a total of ten days.

The jury - eight men and four women - had to decide on a total of seven counts and reach a unanimous verdict on each of them.

Weinstein was acquitted on one count.

There was no agreement on three other charges.

The 70-year-old Weinstein now faces another long prison sentence.

This is Weinstein's second sexual assault trial.

A trial in New York for rape and sexual assault ended in 2020 with a guilty verdict - and a 23-year prison sentence.

His legal team has appealed the verdict.

A decision on this is still pending.

Weinstein has denied any guilt.

Sexual acts were always consensual.

The process in Los Angeles was about allegations by four women in a period from 2004 to 2013. Most of the attacks are said to have taken place in hotels in Beverly Hills.

  • In the case of the first witness - listed under the anonymous name Jane Doe 1 - Weinstein was found guilty on all three counts.

  • In the case of Jane Doe 2, the jury couldn't reach an agreement.

  • In the case of Jane Doe 3, Weinstein was acquitted.

  • The fourth witness was the only one who had gone public with her identity: Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a documentary filmmaker and actress;

she has been married to current California Governor Gavin Newsom since 2008.

She had accused Weinstein of rape, among other things.

However, his lawyers claim that the two had consensual sex and that Siebel Newsom wanted to use the powerful producer to advance her career.

In her case, too, the jury was unable to reach an agreement on either of the charges.
