Theater or video game?

Virtual reality or the new immersive frontier of the stage?

Certainly an innovative proposal that of

Mimosa Campironi

, director and author of

Family Game

VR

arrives at the Argot Studio in Rome, after her debut in Prato.

Family Game VR is a virtual reality performance designed to make the narrative interactive through the contamination between virtual reality, gaming and live performance.

Written to be enjoyed with a virtual reality viewer, Family Game VR is an experimental project that investigates new frontiers in an unprecedented "theatrical game", where new languages meet the body of the actor on stage (all the roles are played by

Alessandro Averone

) for a doubly immersive theatrical effect.

Family Game VR, with a viewer on stage in the theater

With 360° VR technology, the spectator is catapulted into the middle of the scene, right where the dramatic action takes place and called to "play" with the actor by choosing his personal point of view.

In fact, the public is asked to wear a viewer and headphones through which they find themselves immersed in the story: the various characters move and coexist in space

, the spectator - thanks to a revolving stool - chooses what to watch and who to follow (from right to left from top to bottom, the actor multiplies into several characters, revolves around the viewer, as if he were the avatar of a video game, up to the final monologue performed live.

The story.

After an earthquake, a man finds the lifeless bodies of his loved ones buried in the rubble of his house.

In shock he begins to wander aimlessly, until he finds himself getting drunk in a motorway service station.

Here he is mistaken for another man who disappeared years ago.

The mistake of person causes a chain of unpredictable events which, on the one hand redeem the man's pain with the birth of a new love, on the other they bring to light the plot of a terrible family crime.

For Mimosa Campironi that of digital is a new frontier: after having experimented in theatre, music, cinema, television and composition, with Family Game VR,

she has decided to try her hand also with the virtual and the hybridization of languages

, "not in replacement - she explains - but by bringing together the performing arts, in a new formula of cultural entrepreneurship that sees Mimosa herself as a cultural entrepreneur".

“The interest in the use of 360° VR technology - underlines Campironi - starts from the desire to experiment with an apparently insurmountable contrast through contamination

: to tell a story with the rules of the theater that forces empathy

, immersing the story inside of an aseptic, anti-empathic scenic space, inspired by the aesthetics of gaming.

There are visual elements that refer to video games, but also references to the mass media to imagine a hypothesis of the effects of the bombardment of information on humans.

It is a parallelism between the screen scrolling environment and the scrolling of thought by analogy”.

Mimosa Campironi

is an author, actress, director and composer, winner of the Musicultura Critics Award and the SIAE Award for Best Music, nominated for the MTV Music Awards as Best New Generation Artist, and winner of the Oscar dei Giovani in Campidoglio for her actress and feminist.
