Former US film producer Harvey Weinstein wants to take action against his renewed conviction for sex crimes.

Weinstein will appeal the guilty verdict, his spokesman Juda Engelmayer said.

A jury in Los Angeles found the 70-year-old guilty of rape and sexual assault on Monday.

The sentence is expected to be announced in early January.

Weinstein now faces several more years in prison in addition to a 23-year sentence handed down by a New York court two years ago.

However, his legal team has also appealed the verdict in the case.

A decision on this is still pending.

According to Variety, spokesman Engelmayer said that Weinstein was "obviously disappointed" about the current verdict - in which Weinstein was only found guilty in some of the accused cases.

He will take action against the verdict "to ultimately prove his innocence".

The Weinstein revelations sparked the #MeToo movement five years ago.

In total, almost 90 women accused Weinstein of harassment or sexual assault, including Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Salma Hayek.
