The insolent video game market for smartphones and tablets is experiencing the first hitch in its young history.
According to the Newzoo institute, which is a reference in this sector, the revenues generated by these playful applications fell by more than 6% over the whole of 2022, for a total of 92 billion dollars.
This is an unprecedented decrease for an industry that weighs as much as that of games for consoles and PC.
“The decline began in December 2021 and has steadily worsened over the months.
We reached - 13% in November compared to the previous year, “
said Alexandre de Rochefort, financial director of Gameloft.
Like many other industries, mobile gaming is undergoing a correction compared to 2020, when Internet users confined to their homes had spent lavishly (+ 25%) in these applications.
Inflation has also made consumers think twice about buying bonuses to make their games easier.
