What the popular hot drink before breakfast can do to the body.

Coffee is and will remain the favorite drink of Germans.

It not only wakes up tired spirits and gets the circulation going, but is also healthy in certain quantities.

Coffee also helps with weight loss, whereby the timing of the coffee drinking is crucial.

If you want to believe statistics, then nine out of ten people in Germany are coffee drinkers.

On average, three cups of the caffeinated drink are said to be drunk per day in this country.

Most people have their first cup of coffee right in the morning after getting up and before breakfast.

However, nutritionists warn that this is not a good idea.

When it comes to drinking coffee, everyone has their own habits: some like to drink their coffee black, others prefer it with milk - although this loses its healthy effects and even a coffee diet can be unsuccessful - and a third may substitute a cup of coffee for their breakfast.

However, not all behaviors are beneficial to the body.

For example, some coffee habits can accelerate aging.

If you want to get an energy boost with the caffeinated hot drink, you should get used to not drinking coffee on an empty stomach.

Because, as a study by the US University of Maryland showed, drinking coffee in the morning on an empty stomach is not effective.

The concentration of the stress hormone cortisol in the blood is particularly high in the morning.

In order to prepare us for waking up, it is produced by the body beforehand.

It wakes us up and boosts our metabolism.

However, if you drink coffee, the caffeine it contains has no effect.

It is therefore more recommended and more effective not to drink the coffee until the cortisol has been broken down again, for example at or after breakfast.

In addition, coffee before breakfast can increase blood sugar levels by up to 50 percent.

This can cause abdominal pain and nausea and promote the development of diabetes.

Coffee on an empty stomach: Can cause hormone chaos and weight gain in women

In women, a cup of coffee on an empty stomach can have further negative consequences, for example for the hormone balance, warns nutritionist Carlyn Rosenblum.

The cortisol level in the body is particularly high between 8 and 9 a.m. in the morning.

Drinking coffee first thing upon waking increases cortisol levels above normal.

This not only shifts the daily cycle: Caffeine and cortisol in combination can have a negative impact on hormone balance and weight.

Elevated cortisol levels can lead to weight gain and high blood pressure over the long term.
