ChatGpt, the artificial intelligence that can be accessed via the site to receive answers to any question, can become a risk for computer security.
Researchers at Check Point Research, the Threat Intelligence division of Check Point Software, report that hackers may be using ChatGpt to carry out targeted attacks.
To prove it, they used the chat to write emails and malicious code that could affect users' computers.
Check Point Research used intelligence to create phishing emails, i.e. with infected links and documents, for testing and analysis purposes, underlining how the development of AI technologies can significantly change the threat landscape information technology.
Using ChatGpt, the researchers were able to automatically create an e-mail with an attached Excel document containing malicious code to trigger a "reverse shell" attack.
A type of threat that allows hackers, once the victim has been lured, to connect to a personal computer and read all the information contained therein.
As Sergey Shykevich, Threat Intelligence Group Manager at Check Point Software explained: “ChatGpt has the potential to significantly alter the cyberthreat landscape. Now anyone with minimal resources and zero coding knowledge can easily exploit it beyond belief.”
The chat has become very popular in recent days, when the developer OpenAi has made it freely available online.
