He played James Bond five times, now again a detective in the sequel to the Netflix hit »Knives Out«: Daniel Craig has a knack for successful roles – but apparently it's not always easy for him.

Daniel Craig's most famous role is undoubtedly that of secret agent James Bond - but the Brit also played numerous other characters.

Apparently, he wasn't always immediately convinced of the offers: "Most of the scripts that you get sent are rubbish," said the 54-year-old from the dpa news agency in London.

However, he qualified his statement a bit: "They're okay, but they need a lot of work.

You have to sit down and see if you can laboriously work something out.« He left open which scripts he was talking about – and which roles he made the effort for.

It was different with the crime comedy »Knives Out«, in which Craig plays the quirky US detective Benoit Blanc – and whose sequel he is currently promoting on the occasion of the Netflix launch.

"I saw it and read it and I knew right away who this guy was," Craig said of the script.

"Getting something so polished, so exciting and funny, that's something that happens very, very rarely."

Director and screenwriter Rian Johnson returned the compliment straight away.

"He's one of the most gifted actors on the planet," Johnson said of his leading man.

Craig is also "very, very funny."

Following the huge success of 2019's Knives Out, Craig once again plays the quirky Blanc in the sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery.

The film, which was only shown in cinemas for a short time, can be seen on the Netflix streaming service from Friday.

A third part is already being planned.

Craig said goodbye to his role as 007 in 2021 with »James Bond 007: No Time to Die«.

He took over this position five times between 2006 and 2021.
