Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne assured caregivers of the government's "listening" on Thursday, during a visit to the child and adolescent cancer department of the Gustave-Roussy Institute in Villejuif (Val- de-Marne).
“We are listening to you”, declared Élisabeth Borne for whom this trip was “also an opportunity once again to pay tribute to the caregivers and to tell them that we are by their side”.
She was accompanied by the Minister of Health, François Braun, and the Secretary of State for Children, Charlotte Caubel.*
Asked about working conditions
The head of government insisted on the need to "give caregivers perspectives" on the development of their careers, speaking in particular of the vote for the creation of a public service devoted to the validation of acquired experience (VAE) .
This allows caregivers to have their professional skills recognized and sometimes to access new professions.
Elisabeth Borne was also questioned by hospital teams on working conditions.
“It is a service that is very beautiful, with working conditions that remain correct compared to some other hospitals, but it is very very critical”, warned Béatrice Pontillo, nurse at Gustave-Roussy for 29 years.

"We have an entire service closed for lack of nurses", she continued, believing that "the future of the hospital is a bit scary", especially in view of the difficulties in recruiting and keeping young nurses. after the Covid crisis.
"The Minister (of Health) listens to caregivers so that our health system works better", replied the Prime Minister, arguing that it was "important that we do not forget that we needs” caregivers.
Élisabeth Borne and François Braun also met Pétula and Sardine, two professional clowns within the Rire Médecin association, which has been working for 31 years in Gustave-Roussy and throughout France to entertain and support sick children.
