Father state is considered an attractive employer.
A salary that is based on so-called salary levels is just one of the advantages in public service.
Police officers, educators, teachers, doctors - they and their colleagues in the public sector are considered the backbone of society.
Their tasks include upbringing and education, health and care as well as security and administration - and serve the common good.
Unfortunately, there is a lack of around 360,000 employees in all areas (as of Aug. 2022).
The financial remuneration of the jobs is a particular advantage.
Salary in the public sector: grades
The salary of people in public service is calculated from so-called salary brackets, as is the case with the German armed forces.
There are a total of 37 of them, which are divided into four salary scales (A3 to A16, B1 to B11, R1 to R10 and W1 to W3).
As a rule, civil servants earn according to salary group A. The salary table from the German Association of Civil Servants and Tariff Union (dbb)
provides a good overview here
.
The basic salary is then usually measured in steps, and advancement is possible after a certain period of time.
You don't necessarily have to be promoted to earn more money.

A distinction is usually made between civil servants and employees in the public sector.
Civil servants pay no pension insurance, no unemployment insurance and usually low contributions to private health insurance.
Employees, on the other hand, pay into the pension insurance and are usually paid according to the collective agreement.
