Sale with an asterisk: consumers are angry at Zara | Israel today

2022-12-22T12:48:01.674Z

The Spanish fashion chain came out with end-of-season sales, but with an annoying addition • The free shipping policy, which applies to purchases over 199 shekels, is not valid on discounted products • "It's pigs for its own sake, I won't shop there anymore," says one of the customers

Zara's end-of-season sale started yesterday evening (Wednesday), and although this time the fashion giant offered a relatively wide range of discounted items, unlike previous sales, many consumers found themselves disappointed and angry.

• The sale everyone is waiting for: Zara's year-end sales are underway

• We revealed the secret: this is how you can get the glasses of "Emily in Paris"

Until now, the site's shipping policy has been free shipping on purchases over NIS 199, but in perfect timing for the sale, consumers who ordered items in the sale already yesterday evening, were surprised to find that a small message appears in the shopping basket, indicating that free shipping is only valid for items that are not on discount.

That is, a consumer who did not buy items at a full price of more than NIS 199, will be forced to pay NIS 30 for shipping, even if it is a purchase of hundreds of NIS.

In other words, Zara "punishes" the customers who buy on sale, and requires them to pay shipping fees.

It should be noted that the condition is not displayed in a prominent place on the website or on the home page, and those who did not carefully check the shipping policy of the website, and are familiar with the previous policy, discovered the matter only after filling the basket.

Shir, an angry consumer who made a purchase on the site already yesterday evening, when the sale opened, tells Israel Hayom about the event: "I am a well-known fan of the brand, and after the disappointing sale on Black Friday when all the items miraculously 'disappeared' from the stock, and there was not a wide variety of Items on discount, I was happy to see that the items I made in advance are on discount.

"I was surprised to find that even though I had chosen products for an amount approaching a thousand shekels, a message appeared that I was not entitled to free shipping, because I was purchasing items at a discount. This is simply bullshit, after all, the company has a regular and well-known shipping policy, so precisely in Sale, where people can afford the high prices of the company, are they looking for a place to cut another coupon? I thought twice before I placed the order, and I know that with this kind of behavior, I won't buy at Zara anymore," she concluded in frustration.

Oren from Tel Aviv decided to cancel the order because of the shipping cost: "I wanted to order six items from the children's department in the sale, and the shipping cost made the purchase unprofitable. Instead of saving ten shekels per item, it turned out that with the shipping cost the discount was reduced to half. I was very surprised to discover the change in the policy of The deliveries were actually during the sale, when I wanted to save money, and decided not to buy, she says.

Yossi, another customer who planned to place an order at the sale, told us: "I planned to buy two quite expensive jackets on sale, and I made sure to download the app in advance so that I would have items left in stock. When I entered the shopping basket, I saw the message about the payment, and I decided to give up the purchase. My money It's worth less because I'm buying at a discount, in the sale they initiated? That's real audacity."

As we already told you yesterday, the Spanish fashion chain's end-of-season sale started yesterday, with a 30% discount, and started on the app at 10 p.m. and on the website at 11 p.m. The sale in stores began this morning, and malls report heavy traffic in stores.

Many consumers are waiting for this sale and are waiting for the "launch" time on the site, since in previous promotions, items from the stock ran out while ordering.

We note that the network added a worsening of conditions that began on October 20.

The chain then began charging NIS 30 for returning items via courier, of products purchased on the website or in the app, while the return at the branches remained free.

We note that if it is a return of a damaged or incorrect item, the company does not require payment from the courier.

We contacted Zara for a comment, and the company refused to comment.
