5 things you may not have known about coffee ("must not miss" system)

We admit that the studies on coffee confuse us too, but they are still interesting.

A new study has found that drinking two or more cups of coffee a day may put people with high blood pressure at a higher risk of having a stroke or heart attack.

Recent research findings have shown that regular consumption of caffeinated coffee in volumes of two or more cups may double the risk of hypertensive patients dying from heart attack, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.

Somewhat surprisingly, the same results were not found among those who drank green tea or just one cup of coffee daily.

According to the researchers, the main goal of the study, published yesterday in the Journal of the American Heart Association, was to examine the effects of coffee and green tea consumption on cardiovascular disease mortality among people with severe hypertension.

"Our study was designed to determine whether the known protective effect of coffee also applies to people with different degrees of hypertension. We also tested the effects of green tea in the same population," said the author of the study.

Dangerous for some people.

For the purpose of the study, the team examined data from 18,609 participants aged 40 to 79. The participants were asked to fill out a lifestyle, diet and medical history questionnaire.

They also underwent health checks.

"Heavy coffee consumption was associated with an increased risk of mortality in people with severe hypertension, but not in people without hypertension and with stage 1 hypertension. In contrast, green tea consumption was not associated with an increased risk of mortality in all blood pressure categories," The team wrote in their conclusion.

Previous studies have shown that people who have had a heart attack but drink a cup of caffeinated coffee every day can lower the risk of early death from heart attacks and strokes

in healthy adults

.

However, other studies have shown that too much coffee can increase blood pressure and even cause palpitations and anxiety, according to the American Heart Association.
