The tuk-tuk, a nightmare for Parisian cyclists and very often a tourist scam, had the right to its 37th major police operation in six months.
This Thursday, the police checked about fifteen vehicles and found a large number of violations.
Lack of insurance, non-approved motor vehicle, lack of seat belts… Several tuk-tuks were sent to the pound.
They will be destroyed if their owners do not comply.
“We lift them to make sure there is not a hidden engine”, indicates Magali Charbonneau, director of the cabinet of the prefect of police of Paris.
Those who have electric assistance beyond 250 watts, “are prohibited from riding on cycle paths (…), and when they are motorized, they must be approved and registered, otherwise they are removed.

By mid-year, the police headquarters had already checked more than 360 tuk-tuks, recorded nearly 500 violations, including around twenty misdemeanors, and impounded 28 vehicles.
Very often, "tuk-tuks do not have seat belts for passengers", insists Magali Charbonneau, "they are a danger to traffic and the scene of many scams targeting tourists".
Amid these irregular carriers, there are nevertheless four legal tuk-tuk companies: Paris by Tuk-tuk, Paris Tuk-tuk, Tuk-tuk ride and Tuk-tuk in Paris.
